Additional Features For That Comfortable Living Room*

*This is a collaborative post*

If you take the time to design the interior of your home well, and then pump it full of love, then in all likelihood, your living room is going to be pretty comfortable and inviting. However, there’s a big difference between a living room that is somewhat comfortable, and one that has comfort running through its veins. And the good news is that it doesn’t take all that much effort to up a room’s comfort levels. Indeed, as we’ll see below, it can be achieved by making a few smart additions. If your living room could do with a little nudge in the comfort department, try implementing some of our ideas -- they’ll make a difference!

Atmospheric Lighting

You could have the comfiest couch and living room arrangement, but if you don’t get the lighting just right, then you’ll be losing some comfort points! The key is to avoid having those overhead lights, which are always too harsh and clinical, and instead focus on adding multiple side lamps. They always make the home look and feel more inviting, and especially so during the fall and winter. As well as the type of lighting fixture, you’ll also want to look at the bulbs you’re using; soft light is better than white.

The Right Flooring

Now, we’re not saying that there’s anything wrong with wooden floors -- indeed, in the right circumstances, they can add a lot to a home. However, it’s just a fact that wooden floors, while easier to clean, just aren’t as comfortable as a carpeted floor. If you think it’s time for a change, take a look at carpet cost per squared metre; you might be surprised at just how affordable this type of flooring can be. It’ll make a difference to the comfort level of your living, and especially so if the rest of your home has hard flooring.

Deep Relaxation

If you’ve just got an old couch, then it’s time to upgrade! Your couch is like your bedding: you don’t realize how good things can be until you’ve upgraded. If you don’t have the budget to replace your entire couch set, then look at adding throws and blankets to your existing seating. They’ll help you to sink into a deep state of relaxation, especially on those chilly nights.

Arranged Seating

As well as the type of couch you have, you should also think about how it’s arranged. If comfort and relaxation is your objective, then you should know that there’s a right and a wrong way to position them! The location of your seating should be in line with the focal point of the room. Most living rooms just naturally have their seating pointed at the television, but this might not be the best option. If you recline on the couch, it’ll be more relaxing to see the fireplace or a work of art, than a tv screen.

All Things Zen

Finally, don’t forget to add the zen! Incense, candles, and other things that spark joy should all have their place in your living room.
