DIY Face Masks for Acne Prone Skin: Guest Post By Sania

Acne is one of the most common skin complaints amongst both men and women. Most frustratingly, pimples seem to insist on making a timely appearance, usually right before a special occasion! Many of us rely on high end skin care products for treating problems such as acne, however, they can often do more damage than good due to the harsh chemicals in the ingredients.

Face masks are a great way to get rid of acne because they help in reducing sebum, dirt and impurities which are the major cause of this skin complaint. You can make some super effective face masks from the comfort of your own home using organic ingredients that you might already find in your kitchen. The results might take a little time and effort but these masks do help in reducing acne significantly and won't cost you very much.

Why not make a note of the following DIY masks and give them a try?

Egg White and Tea Tree Mask

Combine egg white, lemon juice and tea tree oil to make a simple but effective face mask for anybody with acne issues. Tea tree oil has the incredible power to kill the bacteria in the skin whilst egg whites help in reducing the sebum production and leave the pores clearer. Lemon juice helps in getting rid of the dead skin cells and brightens the skin as well.

Directions:
Take 2 egg whites and mix them with 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil and lemon juice. Blend well to turn into a foam. Apply the mask to the face and wash off when it is all dried up. Make sure you use this mask two to three times a week for quicker results.

Bentonite Clay and Honey Mask

Clays work like a charm for oily and acne prone skin. Bentonite clay is super effective in drawing out dirt and toxins from the skin and leaves the skin oil free. Honey, on the other hand, has antibacterial properties and it helps in reducing inflammation. Both of these ingredients can deliver quick results if applied as a mixture.

Directions:
For this mask, take 1 and half spoons of Bentonite or any other clay and mix 1 tablespoon of honey to it. Add some water to turn the mixture into a paste. Apply the mixture to the face and leave for around 30 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water. Finally, apply a toner with salicylic acid to help further kill any pimples.

Aloe Vera Mask

Aloe Vera is readily available at home and can work wonders for killing acne. It helps in reducing inflammation and also any scars on the skin. Using Aloe Vera with tea tree oil can make a great healing mask for the skin. Tea tree oil is great for killing the bacteria present in the pimples.

Directions:
Take the Aloe Vera leaf and extract its gel. Add 8 to 10 drops of tea tree oil to it. Apply the mask to the areas only where you have acne and leave the paste to dry for about 30 minutes. Wash your face and apply a Body Shop tea tree serum over the pimples. Repeat this remedy two to three times a week for best results.
