Favourites follow up...

'Mucking about!' Me with one of my favourite people... My brother.

More of my favourite things!

Happy Friday people! I cannot believe that today is the very last Friday in May! Where is this year disappearing to? Hope you are all well!
A couple of weeks ago I shared some of my favourite things with you all. From the lovely response I got (thankyou to you all on Twitter and to those that emailed...) it would seem that you enjoyed that particular post. I promised a follow up if that was the case so here it is!
By the time I've finished sharing all my favourites over the next few months you'll probably know me better than I know myself! :)

And off we go...

Blogging

Of course I had to include this! It's been a good few weeks since I began this little venture and I'm absolutely loving every moment. Sure my novel is suffering somewhat, (I haven't written any of it for weeks.) What with all the research, interviewing and feature writing I've been doing, I just haven't had the time to work on 'Surviving Isabelle,' but I wouldn't change it for the world. Blogging in itself has become such a unique experience. I had no idea when I started how many like minded people I'd get to interact with. And I'm truly blessed to have had the privilege of interviewing several published authors. The next of my interviews is with the talented Andrew Males, author of '26 Miles To The Moon' and will be live next Friday on GGD!

Christmas

Go ahead. I can almost hear the moans and sighs of dismay but I LOVE Christmas. In fact I'd go as far as to say it's probably my favourite thing ever! My family and friends are well used to me by now! I start planning about six months ahead and listen to Christmas music pretty much all year round!

Photography

I love photos. Whether it's one that's taken by a stranger or just an image I've captured myself, I love this particular art form. I guess you could say I'm the very definition of 'amateur photographer.' I snap pics at almost every given opportunity.
If you're on Twitter then do look up Steve Davey who has an excellent eye and has taken some incredible photos!

Face Powder

This is an absolute handbag essential as well as being a favourite of mine! Not just a face powder it also doubles up as my own version of 'dry shampoo' when I don't have time to wash my hair! I usually stick to Rimmel because it's pretty cheap. But if I'm having a splurge and want to look really good for an event such as a wedding, my 'go to' is Chanel! Pricey but flawless.

InTheFrow

I mentioned Victoria Magrath on a post a few weeks back. (When I was nominated for the Creative Blogger Award I chose her blog - InTheFrow as one of my own fifteen nominations.) Blogging was something I'd never really looked into until I read about Zoe Sugg in a magazine. But it was then that I started googling and finding out what these 'bloggers' actually did. Victoria's was one of the first blogs that I stumbled across in my search. She also has a YouTube channel and I'm totally in love with her makeup tutorials. If you love makeup and haven't seen any then please watch them! They're awesome!

Quirky gift shops

Although I tend to shop online these days (again due to lack of time!) I do love mooching around unusual, or as I like to call them 'quirky' gift shops. It's usually in these places that I find a random notepad or a wall hanging with an inspirational quote. Kirkby Lonsdale, a small historic market town in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, has a couple of gorgeous shops which I always pop into whenever I'm there.

Twitter

I love Twitter! Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, since blogging I've been able to chat with so many like minded people and this is mostly down to social media. It's a great place to network and due to this I've been blessed to have been presented with some incredible opportunities.
The following are people who I interact with on Twitter and who in one way or another have inspired me! Each and every one of these people has also been so incredibly supportive. For this I am truly grateful to you all! Some are writers, some bloggers but all are the most loveliest and genuine of people. When you have some time, go take a look at their pages and/or blogs. Links to their individual websites can be found in their Twitter bios!

Random Acts Of Kindness

Okay so to be fair this isn't really a 'thing' but then so seems to be the pattern when it comes to the majority of my favourites list.
I feel that it's hugely important in life to treat others as you would care to be treated yourself. Many a time a stranger has surprised me with a random act of kindness. It could be when someone has handed me their car parking ticket because they've still got a couple of hours left on it and they're leaving. Or when someone simply holds a door open to let me pass through. There are hundreds of examples. But needless to say it always makes my day and encourages me to pass this 'kindness' onto someone else. Who said one person couldn't change the world? Especially if one person starts a chain reaction! Try it... Do something totally random for someone. I guarantee you'll make their day and you'll feel pretty good for it yourself too!

I shall stop there for now.. More favourites will follow in the near future. As always, please leave your feedback below or catch me on Twitter. Have a fabulous weekend! Hope you've enjoyed tonight's read?? What are your favourite things? Until next week... Love and hugs! xxx

P.s Bloggers look out for this...

Coming soon! xxx

Book Review...

'The Beach Cafe!' by Lucy Diamond

Dear fellow readers,

Whilst I'm waiting for my favourite author Tess Gerritsen to release her next novel, I decided to read a few books by different authors.

Today's review is of the 'The Beach Cafe' by Lucy Diamond. I must admit the "chick lit" genre isn't one I'm normally keen on as I much prefer crime fiction, however Lucy Diamond has a way of making her characters likeable and realistic. I love the way she brings her characters to life. Evie Flynn is just like someone we all know and love who makes plenty of mistakes but is funny, caring and a little daft at times.
This is the perfect summer read and with the way Lucy describes the Cornich village it really makes you feel you want to be there on those warm summer days listening to the waves crashing in on the beach as the sun sets.
Oh how I wish I could inherit the beautiful Beach Cafe.

Until next time, MM xxx

Thankyou as always to Murphy's Mother! I'm looking forward to reading another review in a fortnight as I hope all of you are too?!
Just to finish off, here's a little bit of information about the author of 'The Beach Cafe'...
Lucy Diamond is actually a pseudonym/pen name. The author's real name is Sue Mongredien. She chose the alternative name as she felt it was easier to pronounce! Sue writes both children's books and 'chick lit.' She attended Leeds University where she read English. After a move to London and working for various publishers, Sue then went travelling around the world for a year and a half. (Would love to see some pics Sue!) Now living in Bath with her husband, she juggles writing with looking after her three young children. Her newest book is titled 'One Night in Italy.'

If you're on Twitter then you can contact Sue here... @LDiamondAuthor

Alternatively you can email her... Lucy@lucydiamond.co.uk

Hope you all have a fabulous week! Love GGD xxx

Catch up...

Well it's the end of a busy week. Have you all enjoyed your weekend up til now? I hope so. I have to apologize as I didn't get chance to post on Friday and I haven't really had time to so much as breathe since. But rather than leave you all with nothing I thought I'd share this short update.
This week has been a positive one in regards to my writing. I submitted a feature to the lovely Florence Matthews in the hopes she'd choose me as one of three contributers for her new publication... 'Love From' magazine. As always, stuck for time, I threw a feature together and emailed it Flo late Wednesday night. By some miracle she loved it. And then she made my entire week when she informed me I was going to be one of the three contributers! Safe to say I was one happy bunny! If you want to pre-order a copy then you're best speaking to Flo. Her twitter handle is... @flomatthews_
Other than that I've just been working all week and trying to catch up with myself. I have many author interviews in the pipeline. I'd love to share names but for now my lips must remain sealed. I will however divulge that several are chart topping bestselling novelists! (Hugely excited!)
That's all for now... Hopefully I'll have chance to upload a proper post this week. In the meantime I've been enjoying discovering new blogs. If you want me to check out yours then please leave your links in the comments box!
Lots of love to you all... Now I must catch up on sleep! :) GGD xxx

'Tommy Cowell at The British Soap Awards 2015'

Hello lovelies! Hope you are all well and looking forward to the bank holiday weekend? I know I am. Tonight I get to introduce you all to another of my fabulous guest bloggers... Tommy Cowell. When I first heard Tom was going to be at the Soap Awards I literally launched myself at him to see if he would do a special post for all of you. Being the legend that he is, he agreed.
As soon as I read Tom's finished piece I loved it immediately and I hope you do too. Links to his website and youtube channel are included so feel free to go check out more of his work. Over to Tommy...

Justine and I are from the city of Preston, which means we both began writing for the same reasons; to give us something to do whilst avoiding the nuclear devastation outside, waiting for the all clear siren to sound.
I’m a film maker, having worked with the likes of Bill Nighy, Frances Barber and Annette Badland. Now let me just bend over and pick those names up.
You can find out more about me on my website:

THE SOAP AWARDS!

I was outed! In the Manchester Evening News!
It was a Saturday afternoon and we were lining up outside the Palace Theatre. That evening we were due to watch the British Soap Awards being filmed. The queue was never-ending. The one saving grace was, across the road, we could see the soap stars (all of whom wore sunglasses, even though the light was dim at best) entering their hotel.
So, of course, my best friend Joe and I ran across to meet telly’s finest. I remember being quite excited to see Marlon from Emmerdale; a character whom I have never taken any interest in, ever. But when the actor was stood right in front of me, I found myself shouting: “Marlon! MARLON!!!”
Seeing the general public swarm and devour these people was like watching a live-action twitter. It was fascinating, and also a little scary. The actors and actresses themselves looked slightly stressed by the attention they were receiving. Especially Marlon. (MARLON!!!!)
But most importantly, I got my photo with Gavin off Corrie. (Or rather, Andy. No. Let’s not get into that. He’s Gavin.) A stunningly beautiful man, and when we met I could see his longing for me within his eyes. It was either that, or pure dread. No – it was longing. We’ll go with longing...

Tommy with Andy Carver aka 'Gavin' from Coronation Street
As you can see, he’s far more excited about seeing me than I am him. Quite frankly, I’m embarrassed for him.
The show itself was a laugh, and it didn’t drag on as much as some other TV show recordings I’ve been to (Corrie V Emmerdale, I’m looking at you…) It was treated as an almost live performance, but still took about three hours to film. (Reasonable.) Phillip Schofield is a pro. He only stumbled in his autocue once. (Which brought us the hilarious moment when Jessica Hines – AKA Cheryl from the Royle Family - came out and gave him a bit of grief for this slip up.)
It was exciting knowing all the major players from Soap-land were sat beneath us. We couldn’t see them all the way at the top, but we could see their reflection in the set, directly in front of us. We spent ages, squinting our eyes, trying to make out who was who. (“I spot Natalie Cassidy!” “No you don’t, that’s a fridge.”)
As for the seating; the leg room was bloody dire. I made the suggestion to one of the ushers that they should knock the Palace Theatre down and re-build it with added space for legs. I’m sure they passed on my comment to their superiors.
I won’t spoil who won what – but Eastenders did extremely well. Ridiculously well. In fact I’m certain it’s the only soap opera on TV at the minute – it might as well have been after the amount of awards it won! And well deserved, I say. The 30th anniversary live week was incredible.
Patrick Duffy (AKA the legendary Bobby Ewing from Dallas) awarded the final trophy of the evening, which evoked much excitement from the crowd. I’ve got to say, even though I’ve heard of the character’s name, I couldn’t point him out in a room. And I can prove it, cos he walked past me on Oxford Road after the show, and I didn’t even realise.
It was a fun evening. Very showbiz, darrrrling. And with extremely sore legs, I ubered my way home, climbed into my bed, and took to Twitter. This is when I noticed I suddenly had more followers. And a notification from the Manchester Evening News – they included the photo of me and Gavin off Corrie as part of their coverage on the Soap Awards!
Outed! I’m outraged. And I kept my homosexuality secret, so well.
The next morning, I made a vlog about soaps – are they all the same? You can watch my wittering on my youtube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa-M4Gy7KYU
Please like, subscribe and share. And all that jazz.

Did you all enjoy? Please feel free to leave comments or feedback for Tommy below. And as for me... I'll hopefully see you all this time tomorrow evening when I'll be sharing a brand spanking new post! For now I'm off to continue watching the Soap Awards!! GGD xx

These are a few of my favourite things...

Handful of favourites!

Here we are once more, another Friday evening. Typically I have left it to the last minute to get this post uploaded. That's me, always on the last minute. And unlike me I didn't have chance to write this longhand first, it's been a busy week all in all. So forgive me if there are any mistakes, I'm literally winging it!
I hope you've all had a fabulous week? As always, thankyou for all your lovely messages, and thankyou to those who messaged me about 'Murphy's Mother.' I have passed on your comments to my resident book reviewer! I must say, I think she did a marvellous job considering it was her very first post. Can't wait to read more!
So over the last few weeks I've noticed that many bloggers post 'favourites' specials. Usually a collection of all the lovely items they've bought and loved over the previous month. With that in mind I decided to do my own favourites post... but with a twist. As I haven't really given much insight into 'me' yet, I decided to share with you just a few of my 'general' favourite things. If you enjoy this post I may do a follow up in future so please do let me know what you think.
Here we go... Sit back with a brew (or glass of wine) and enjoy...

 Books

It goes without saying that books are at the top of my list, or at least very high up on it! I've loved reading ever since I was a child. I've pictured only a few of my most loved reads here as it would have been impossible to list them all. Two of the books featured have huge significance for me. The first is an Enid Blyton novel. It was Enid's books that sparked something inside of me at the grand old age of seven. I think I knew there and then that I wanted to be a writer. I certainly filled a lot of notepads with stories. Every Birthday and every Christmas I'd ask for new stationery. However it would be a long time before I would get really serious about it.
'Watermelon' by Marian Keyes was the next 'life-changing' read. I can't put into words why exactly, just that it inspired me to pick up a pen and take my writing more seriously. I found my 'niche' so to speak. (And a love for all things chick lit.) This is one of Marian's best novels and I totally recommend it.

Friends

Friends are a hugely important aspect of life and I'm lucky that I have some of the best friends a girl could ask for. Without them I wouldn't be the person I am today. Many a time they've been there to pick me up when I've had a down spell or what I like to call a 'slump.' Some of my favourite memories are of the laughs and good times I've shared with them. Girls... You rock!

Perfume

I don't class myself as being very materialistic but I do however have a love of perfume! There's something about it that makes me feel better about myself. The first 'real' perfume I ever bought was with my first pay check at nineteen. I splashed out on a bottle of Chanel Allure which has since become my signature scent. My second favourite perfume is Marc Jacobs Lola (shown above). As you can see it's empty but the bottle is so pretty I just can't bring myself to throw it out. I tend to like heavier, musky perfumes that make me feel glamorous!

Cath Kidston

I absolutely adore Cath Kidston. Full of craft and sewing items it's my kind of place. If you can't find me in Waterstones then you'll more than likely find me in here! This photo was taken outside the Manchester store which is the nearest to where I live. (Hint. Please get one in Preston!!)

The Great Outdoors

One of my favourite places to be is outside. The Lake District in particular! If I could live there I probably would. Maybe one day hey? I find being outdoors both incredibly therapeutic and inspiring.

Wine and Music

Who doesn't like the odd glass of wine? I love nothing more than curling up at the end of a long, hard day with a glass of white wine or pink fizz.

Music plays a big role in my life. I have hundreds of cds. I play them in the car, at home, when I'm relaxing and when I'm writing. If I need to lift my mood or feel inspired I usually reach for my Taylor Swift collection! I'd like to stake claim at being her number one fan but I'm sure there are plenty more Swifties out there saying exactly the same thing!

Sewing

The snowman tree decorations (pictured) were made the Christmas eve just gone. I was teaching my eight year old nephew. His is on the left handside. He did a beautiful job don't you think? I've loved sewing ever since I discovered a needle and thread aged six or seven. Every year I now make a Christmas Stocking as a gift for a family member or friend. If you've read my 'about me' you'll already know this, but one of my dreams is to have my own fashion line and at some point a bridal shop. But you know what they say!? Dreams do come true! Watch this space...

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme doughnuts... Enough said!!

Writing

Last but not least... Writing. I guess you could say writing is in my genetic makeup. I take a pen and pad with me EVERYWHERE! And if I don't have a notepad to hand, I usually end up with handfuls of scribbled post-it notes stuffed into my pockets! I never let a creative moment pass me by.
I do love this photo as I think it sums me up perfectly without any words! My nephew caught me unawares. I tend to get lost in my own little world!

I could go on but I don't want to make this post too long. At some point I'm going to do a Q&A post to answer all your questions. If you want to ask something and you don't mind it featuring on GGD then please email me, tweet me or leave a comment below.

Catch you all in another week... Until then, have a lovely weekend! xxx

Introducing my new resident book reviewer...

'Murphy's Mother'

As you'll have gathered by now, (if you've read my last three posts) I usually only upload on a Friday evening. However, due to requests from lots of you lovely readers, I've decided to share a special mid-week post tonight!
Going by the name 'Murphy's Mother,' my new guest blogger's identity is a well kept secret. She will be sharing book reviews with you on a fortnightly basis. A bit like Jennifer Niven, she is loveliness personified so I hope you love her as much as I do... But be warned, like the Simon Cowell of the music industry, or the Anne Robinson of the quiz show world, Murphy's Mother is the sharp tongued protagonist for the book trade. She tells it like it is and although sometimes seemingly harsh, she will always give you her honest opinion. She does afterall want you to get the best out of your reading experience.
If you have a question or any feedback then please email me and I'll be sure to pass it on. GGD xx

Over to you Murphy's Mother...

Dear fellow readers

After all the hype surrounding the likes of 'Gone Girl' and 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' I decided enough was enough and wanted to express my own opinion as it would seem to me that the rest of the book critic world has gone slightly mad. Have they even read Gone Girl? I guessed the plot three pages in!
Don't get me wrong. There are some amazing writers out there (Tess Gerritsen is a fine example) but I also don't want you wasting your precious leisure hours reading drivel when you could be reading something actually mind blowing! Prior to buying Gone Girl I read so many rave reviews which now leaves me to think perhaps these people never even opened the book in the first place let alone read it in it's entirety. In truth there isn't many books in life I've given up on, but over one hundred pages in and I just couldn't justify wasting anymore of my time! This did surprise and disappoint me as I usually love crime fiction and I hate to let a book defeat me.
Never one to end on a negative, I have read some lovely and heart warming books which are altogether more thought provoking. Authors such as Victoria Hislop, JoJo Moyes and Lucy Diamond are firm favourites and I look forward to sharing these reviews with you in the near future. Until the next time... Many Thanks

Murphy's Mother xx

Have you read Gone Girl? Tell us what you thought of it in the comments box below.

Next post from girlgonedreamer coming this Friday...

The Creative Blogger Award

The Creative Blogger Award

Hello once again! Cannot believe it's already been a week since my last post. Where does the time go?
So... Slight change of plan. This wasn't the post I had planned for, but just yesterday the lovely Adriana nominated me for the 'Creative Blogger Award.' On that note it seems only fitting that I push the original post back a week and instead share this one. I hope none of you mind. You will have to excuse the 'tardiness' as this is the fastest blog post I have ever had to throw together. Literally done in a couple of hours due to lack of time. I hope it still reads ok!
Firstly, thankyou so much Adriana! It was lovely of you to think of me.
Apparently as part of my nomination I've to share five facts about myself with you the readers!

So here goes, I shall try not to bore you all!

Five Facts About GirlGoneDreamer!

1. I absolutely cannot swim. (Or ride a bike! Although I do plan to learn to do both of these things at some point!)

2. I originally qualified as a Hairdresser and Beauty Therapist in 2001 before 'falling' into a Dental Nurse trainee position. Fast forward 14 years and I'm still working at the very same practice.
(Note. I have left and come back... TWICE!) It's a little bit like one big happy family... I work with the loveliest bunch of girls.

3. I talk WAY too much! What can I say? I have several flaws and this is one of them! :)

4. One of the first stories I ever wrote was titled 'Pixie Magic Amazing!' I would have been about seven or eight and I can still vividly remember typing it up on my dad's old Amiga computer! Blast from the past!

5. I always root for the underdog... No matter what!

It's funny how hard it is to list just five facts about yourself when put on the spot. Try it and see what you come up with. (If you're not too shy then feel free to share them in the comments box below!)

The second part of my nomination involves me nominating 15 of my favourite bloggers!
So here are links to 15 blogs I love to follow! Please check them all out and see what you think. I must apologise to all the other lovely bloggers out there... I wanted to include you all but it would have been impossible!

So here are my 15 nominees in no particular order...

Charlotte Roberts

Charlotte is an 18 year old Psychology undergraduate from Leeds. She describes her blog as more of a diary - documenting her thoughts and feelings. Totally on my wavelength which is perhaps why I love her blog, she loves to write!

Kayla's Books

Studying to become a high school teacher, Kayla blogs about all things book related! She's 21 in July and lives in Sweden.

A Little Freckle

I love Josie's blog! A London based beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger, Josie graduated from 'London College of Fashion' with a fashion management degree. She previously worked for Mulberry and now works in PR and Marketing for a fashion software company.

Emsy B

Emsy is a London lifestyle blogger with a passion for fashion, beauty and baking!

InTheFrow

Victoria is a relatively well known blogger. A photographer, stylist, editor and writer. 'In The Frow' is a style, life and beauty blog. Victoria has a PhD in mobile fashion app design. She blogs full time in London and her trademark is her purple hair!

AllThatB

Rebekka is mother to a gorgeous little girl, wife to be and blogger! She loves homeware, asos, watching netflix and tan handbags! Her main 'blog goal' is to express an opinion and to share with readers, the shiny things that make her happy. She also loves to write.

After graduating, fed up with Graphic Design, Lorna gained a job with the motortrade. She writes about all sorts, beauty, food, places. Co-founder of The City Girls... This is one blogger to watch!

TeaAndBlush

Holly-Lucy is the other Co-founder of The City Girls. She lives in a Northern city where it rains a lot! (I feel you!! Same here!) She's 29 years young and loves the feeling she gets when she publishes a blog post for all the world to see. Tea and Blush is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog.

VeryBerryCosmo

Kayleigh is one talented young lady. A Graphic Design student at the University of Leeds. She is currently on her placement year and also works one day a week on the Waitrose cake counter! I fell in love with Kayleigh's blog the second I saw the bright header image. It just grabbed my attention as if her blog was demanding to be read. And of course read I did. She loves (amongst many other things...) Cath Kidston, her Macbook, nail polish and cheesecake! Kayleigh is another one to watch... Her vlogs also make for excellent viewing!

DungareesAndDonuts

Olivia Jade is a 20 year old university student. She's studying Film and Television Production. I have a lot of admiration for Olivia. Not just because she's a busy lady and still finds the time to blog but because she is vocal about her Mental Health. Speaking out is so important if we want to rid the world of stigma so I'm very proud of her. Of course her blog is full of other lovely things too such as beauty, fashion and lifestyle posts. Did I mention she created my gorgeous blog button?

Abbie

20 year old Abbie blogs about beauty, makeup, and fashion. She has a passion for writing which makes her a girl totally after my own heart! Abbie says she has formed friendships with so many bloggers. I can completely relate to this. Perhaps it's because we have a common ground but whatever the reason, I'm so grateful I have had the chance to encounter all these lovely people who I too consider friends.

MaddieBrooks
I adore Maddie! She is another book lover and blogs about her favourite reads. You'll also find she posts book reviews and in the future possibly some interviews too!
